Is It Okay to Use a Smartphone During a Steam Bath? Do You Know These Steam Bath Taboos?

It's widely known that steam baths offer numerous health benefits and have become a popular method for wellness. Especially during the winter, when our bodies can accumulate cold, sweating can be extremely beneficial for our health. However, some people use their smartphones during steam baths, but is this a good practice? Let's explore this further.

Can You Use a Smartphone During a Steam Bath?

Ideally, it's best not to use your smartphone while in a steam bath.

Steaming helps to relieve stress, reduce tension, and promote relaxation. We're all aware that using smartphones can strain our eyes and consume our energy. Therefore, it's advisable to avoid using your smartphone during a steam bath. Instead, take this time to peacefully enjoy the sweating experience. Additionally, steam bath temperatures typically range from 40 to 45°C, while the normal operating temperature for smartphones is between -10 to 50°C. Exposing your phone to high temperatures for extended periods can shorten its lifespan. Using your smartphone during a steam bath can also disturb others in the area, so it's recommended to refrain from it.

Steam Bath Taboos

Don't vigorously wipe off sweat and dirt from your body when in a steam bath. Gently pat your skin with a towel to ensure normal sweat gland secretion.

It's best not to apply a face mask during a steam bath. Steam baths cause your pores to open up, allowing sweat to carry waste products and toxins out of your body through your pores. Applying a face mask could potentially clog these enlarged pores. For the best results, apply a face mask after your steam bath to allow your skin to better absorb its nutrients.

Avoid frequent entry and exit from the steam room. While in a steam bath, your pores are expanding, and repeatedly entering and exiting can easily expose your body to cold air. Frequent transitions also hinder the expulsion of sweat.

Never wear contact lenses during a steam bath. The heat and humidity can cause you to sweat profusely, and the sweat, carrying bacteria, may seep into your eyes, potentially causing bacterial growth on your contact lenses and cornea. Thus, avoid wearing contact lenses during a steam bath. Additionally, contact lenses are not breathable and can be flammable, so it's best to refrain from wearing them in the steam bath.

Steam baths offer a multitude of health benefits and are generally good for most people, aiding in detoxification and promoting wellness. However, it's essential to be mindful of certain practices that should be avoided during steam baths. Moreover, steam baths may not be suitable for older individuals or those with certain cardiovascular conditions to avoid discomfort or health concerns.
